In a recent thread on Support, one member went on holiday and used the hotel wifi, they believe their email was cracked, the member changed their email password, but was wise enough to come to support for further advice.
There are more complicated ways to secure your laptop etc, but I like to keep things simple.
You may want to consider changing passwords for any online account that is linked to that email. Most websites now will not send a plain text password, so those should be relatively safe, as long as the perpetrator hasn't already done a password reset. If you believe any online account has been compromised via your email, change the password, and the security question (if any)
Be aware that if you use the same password for other websites, this is not recommended procedure.
You should be able to search your inbox for 'password' to get a list of places you use a password on.
Here's a hint when going on holiday or using strange wifi's Create another email account somewhere, you can either inform friends about the email if you think they may want to contact you while away, or set your main email to forward emails to the temporary account, and never use the temporary account for anything that you don't want compromised (website logins etc)
